Balsall & Berkswell Hornets FC U9 cw Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
13/12/2009 League Kingshurst 1 v 3 Hornets

Wow what a great end to the year! The best the boys have played for a long time saw them fight really hard, play as a team and pass the ball around! A well deserved victory, which reversed the result at home in October.

The game started slowly with both sides having equal possession but gradually we began to dominate and with great passing we began to grow in confidence. The boys created some good chances with Josh hitting the post, Sam firing just wide, and Ben following up on a corner for a speculative shot. Despite our dominance and playing as a team we could not get the deserved goal. Just before half time they broke away catching our defence out of position and took an undeserved lead.

However the boys character and new found grit and determination came into evidence. At half time the team were determined to go out and get right back into it. The next 25 mins were the most enjoyable and satisfying that we have seen all season. First Sam and Haydn combined for a near post shot to be saved, then Josh found Haydn who turned and fired past their keeper and we were level. Our tail was now up and the boys streamed forward with everybody tackling hard and dominating. The second swiftly followed this time with Sam taking a cross and beating the keeper. we continued to dominate finding space on many occasions but just failing to convert the chances. Despite the dominance there was always a chance that at only 2-1 they could sneak an equaliser. However with 2 mins to go Josh nicked the ball in midfield and ran through their tired defence to put the game beyond doubt. Nick and I (and no doubt many of you) could finally breath a sigh of relief!

For his outstanding play and dogged determination the man of the match went to Haydn.

We are now fourth in the league with 4 wins and 4 losses from our 8 games and have 12 still to play.
