Balsall & Berkswell Hornets FC U10 Colts Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
27/2/2010 League Hillmorton 3 v 2 B & B Colts U10

Colts had their second game since mid December today – away to Hillmorton, a team they had yet to meet this season. The squad was complete.

From the start Colts were confident and looked good. Pierce, Sam La and Jacob were passing well up front and a few minutes in following another great passing move Jacob shot from the wing – his shot was high and just went over the keeper and fell into the net to make it 1-0 to Colts.

Colts continued to play well – Pierce and Jacob passing well up front and creating chances. Steven was working hard in defence – blocking well a free kick and making some good tackles. Daniel and Sam Lo in midfield were hassling the Hillmorton attack.

However, after a cry from their coach of ‘push harder’ Hillmorton attacked and made it through the Colts defence to make it 1-1.

Liam came on in midfield. Colts then had a run of chances before half time – Jacob controlled the ball well, passed to Sam La who struck the ball well but the shot was just wide. After some more good passing moves Sam La had another shot that was blocked by the keeper – Jacob reached the rebound but it went wide. Just before half time there was a goal mouth scramble, with the Hillmorton keeper and at least 2 defenders on the ground but Colts could not manage to get the ball in and Pierce’s final shot went wide.

In the second half Nathan started in midfield and Colts now had the benefit of the down hill slope. Some over enthusiastic defending by the Colts led to Hillmorton being awarded a penalty but which was shot wide.

Hillmorton were pushing harder now and Colts pushed back in defence – with James making some fine saves as ever. Nathan was tackling well and Daniel had a shot blocked – but Colts were not able to get many attacks going. Hillmorton then made a good run and scored to make it 2-1. Colts tried to fight back – Thomas came on and was tackling and blocking well but from a corner Hillmorton struck again to make it 3-1.

Colts did not give up hope – Jacob made a fine solo run down the pitch , round several defenders, barged past the last , took the shot that rebounded off the keeper but Daniel was there to put it in the back of the net to make it 3-2.

Colts then worked hard in the last few minutes to get an equaliser but were not able get another attack in time.

Man of the match – Jacob
Best effort- Nathan
