Balsall & Berkswell Hornets FC U10 Colts Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
6/3/2010 League Banbury Irish 2 v 1 B & B Colts U10

Colts were this week away to Banbury Irish whom they had faced at the start of the season. The weather was dry and bright and even quite mild compared to previous weeks. Most importantly Banbury had refreshments! The squad were today without Liam who was swimming.

Colts started very positively with some fine passing – early on there were a couple of great moves – Sam Lo to Sam La to Pierce who could not get a shot, then again Sam Lo to Sam La to Pierce whose shot was this time blocked and Jacob picked up the rebound but his shot was wide. Colts earned a free kick but Jacob unluckily sent the ball over the goal. Colts were passing and running really well and were picking up every time Banbury lost the ball. Banbury did break through though – from a corner James made a fine save after a goal mouth scramble where he hurt his leg – but bravely continued. Colts were still creating chances – there was another great passing move of Sam Lo to Pierce to Sam La, however Sam’s shot was wide. Banbury then had some chances and finally broke through and against the run of play took a 1-0 lead.

Colts kept their heads high – and kept attacking. Dan had a shot wide and was making some great passes. Steven was clearing the ball well in defence and booting the ball up field. Colts were still making chances but just could not get a shot on target. Just before half time, from a corner Daniel got the ball, went round two defenders but unfortunately his shot was wide.

In the second half Nathan came on for Sam La. Colts started where they left off – great passing and moving and for the first 10 minutes or so there was great end to end play. Thomas came on in defence for Sam Lo and was clearing wel. Then Jacob had a run down the wing, took a shot and crossed the ball in and it flew beautifully over the keepers head into the net to level the scores. Almost immediately afterwards he had another good shot that was picked up by the keeper.

Nathan was working hard up front – chasing balls and hassling the keeper. Banbury were still pushing hard however – and won a series of corners. Colts survived one goal mouth scramble (after much screaming from the mums on the sidelines) but then one corner cross caught a Colts defender which went past James to make it 2-1.

In the last few minutes of the game Colts were desperate for an equaliser – they also then won a series of corners that everyone came up for – but they could not get a shot on target.

Overall one of the Colts best ever performances as a team and for consistency throughout the game.

Best Effort – Sam Lo
Man of the match – Jacob.
