Community Support As Hornets Pack Their Bags for Christmas |

19/12/2011 - Latest News

A huge thank you from the Hornets for your generous support of our fundraising bag pack at the Heart of England Co-Op in Balsall Common on Saturday & Sunday, 17th & 18th December.
Your contributions will help provide improved facilities for the 200+ boys and girls from the local community who enjoy playing football with the Hornets.
Balsall & Berkswell Hornets are the community’s local football club whose primary aim is to allow local boys and girls the opportunity to play sport. The club currently has 17 teams from Under 8 (Year 3) upwards and now also runs a fantastic Saturday morning club that introduces even younger children to the game. We rely on volunteers, who we financially support in attaining their FA Licensed Coaches Badge, to coach and run teams. The more volunteers we have the more teams we can run for the youngest in Balsall Common and Berkswell.
Over the last few years we have worked tirelessly to acquire a 25 year lease from Solihull for a 6 acre site north of Lavender Hall Park, bounded by Lavender Hall Lane, Hallmeadow Road and Kenilworth Road. With the support of the community, local sponsors and parish councils we have transformed the site, now known as the Triangle, from rough grazing land into an area filled with football pitches and equipment that enables children of all ages to enjoy their football.
We are raising funds to continue to develop the Triangle with the aim of providing toilets, changing facilities and improve pitch drainage.
• Is your son or daughter interested in playing football ? • Is anyone you know interested in playing for the Hornets ? • Would you like to help run a team ? • Do you want to help your local community club ? • Have you skills that could help us with our development plans ? • Are you a referee who would like to earn some money ?
If yes to any of the above we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us through the website.
We would also like to thank the Heart Of England Co-Op for their support and their tolerance of the the youthful exuberance of the bag packers over the weekend!
Thank you all for your support and we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
