Hornets Hitting the Headlines with New Clubhouse - Latest Press Release

Balsall and Berkswell FC are celebrating receiving £440,000 towards their highly anticipated clubhouse from the Football Foundation.

The funding will allow the Hornets to build a brand new clubhouse at their home ground, the Triangle. ~

When complete, the clubhouse will boast two changing rooms, an official’s room, a multi-functional space and fully accessible changing facilities.

And it will offer opportunities for people from the local community with disabilities to access football on a more regular basis.
The grass pitches at the site will also benefit from surface and drainage improvements and be reconfigured to suit mini, junior and senior football.

Club chairman Steve Tidy said: “It is fantastic to be able to deliver such an important project for the club and the local community.

“We have been working tirelessly over the past two years with Solihull Council and other local organisations, and have raised over £130,000, but without the support of Football Foundation this next phase of our development would have not been possible.

“The technical support and guidance from the Football Foundation has been essential to ensure that we provide a long-term sustainable community club.”

The grant has been a significant boost towards Balsall and Berkswell’s vision of providing a state-of-the-art football facility to the entire community, and will aid the ambitious club in expanding from 14 teams to an impressive 22 teams in the next five years.

The new clubhouse will enable the club to welcome back their senior mens’ team, who have been forced to play thier home games at Warwick University due to the Triangle’s poor facilities.

The club is also looking to increase female participation by creating a link with Heart of England School, offering girls at the school the opportunity to play at the new site. In addition, the club supports the annual Mencap Football Day and the new site will allow them to host events towards this.

The club worked in partnership with the Birmingham County FA to secure a £440,759 grant from the Football Foundation.
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I am delighted that a Football Foundation grant will enable Balsall and Berkswell FC to build this new facility and increase local participation in football.

“In partnership with the Birmingham County FA, Balsall and Berkswell have worked extremely hard to secure this funding from the Football Foundation.”

“Since 2000 our funding partners, the Premier League, The FA and the Government, via Sport England, have generously provided the investment to improve grassroots facilities throughout the country, just like this one in Solihull.”
