Balsall & Berkswell Hornets FC U9 cw Fixture Result and Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
8/11/2009 Cup Boldmere Falcons 6 v 1 Hornets

Well, I think we just saw how much we still have to learn. The boys tried hard and fought well but the passing and organisation of Boldmere generally undid us.

The first half started well enough with us looking up for the match, but it soon be came apparant that our defence was going to be busy and a key factor in how we would do. Christopher, Michael and Luke held firm amid some creative attacking play, with Michael and Christopher particulary throwing themselves infront of the ball. Sadly after 10 mins they scored the opener and two more swiftly followed and suddenly we were 3-0 down. Olly was keeping well with some good saves keeeping the score down. The boys stuck to their task and a speculative effort from Josh crept through the keepers legs to reduce the deficit to 3-1, and spark hopes of a recovery. But the presure continued and the falcons scored one more by half time to go in 4-1 up.

Undaunted we came out fighting in the second half with Olly and Haydn swapping places, but still the pressure was on the defence with any combination of Michael, James, Chris, and Luke being kept very busy. We had a couple of promising breaks but sadly our passing lacked accuracy and our determination was not as robust as the falcons since most 50:50 balls ended up in their possession. The Falcons scored two more but at no stage did the boys stop trying, competing and showing their fighting spirit but ultimatley the superior skill of the opposition won through.
A disappointing result but the game was played in an excellent spirit and hopefully we can learn from this and use it to our advantage.

For his excellent defensive work Christopher was awarded the player of the match.
