Following the success of our Season Opening event at the start of the 2024-25 season we are going to make this an annual fundraising event. This year’s event will take place on Saturday 6th September from 12.30 until 8pm. All players, parents, helpers, and the wider community are welcome to attend.
Funds raised at this year’s event will be split 50:50 between the club and between the two charities nominated by Beau Gomes’s parents.
They are Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Young Lives vs Cancer. The committee and everyone associated with the Hornets were incredibly sad to learn of Beau’s passing in June 2025 at the age of just 13.
Beau started playing football at the Saturday club at the age of 4 in 2016 and was an original member of the Balsall Hornets Juniors Under 8’s when the team formed in 2019 with his dad Pat as a coach.
Beau always had a cheeky smile and brought a lot of fun to training and matchdays.
He wore the number 7 shirt which has been retired in his team in his memory. He was an integral part of the team, a winger with exceptional pace who scored some spectacular goals.
He will be missed by his team mates, coaches, friends, and everyone who knew him at the club. As a club we are keen to honour his memory. As well as donating 50% of the profits from this event, there will be a tombola on the day with all proceeds going to the two charities. Other commemorations are planned. For anyone who can’t attend and would like to donate, here are the links to the two fundraising pages set up by Beau’s family
